Born on Oct. 2, 1915, Nick was one of 7 children of Nicholas Sr. and Maria Scatourchio. He was raised and lived his life in Jersey City, NJ. Nick aspired to be a chemical engineer, but became a teacher after graduating St. Peters’ college at the age of 19 during the Depression. Subsequently, he worked for both the Lehigh Valley Railroad and the Hudson County Board of Elections, for which he became the Chief Clerk in 1975. Nick married Genevieve Feltwater in 1938 and fathered 3 children, Barbara, Nicholas III and Irene. He was an excellent baseball player and had a tryout with the New York Giants. Nick was a New York Yankee baseball fan and regularly took his son to games at Yankee Stadium. One of his favorite passtimes was taking the family for rides in the country and going to Cook's Lake in Denville, NJ.Nick was devastated by the tragic loss of his parents in a fire in 1945. While he turned to alcohol to escape the pain he did have frequent long periods of sobriety. Nick was a fervent Democrat and involved in politics for many years. He died of cirrhosis of the liver and emphysema on March 25, 1975
