Earl Morgan A native of Jersey City, DAgosto was a career civil servant and worked in various capacities through a half-dozen city administrations. Before moving to the City Clerks Office she worked during the administration of Mayor Paul T. Jordan as secretary to City Corporation Counsel, Dennis McGill. She also served as secretary to other corporation counsels, including Matthew Burns during Mayor Gerald McCanns administration. She served as secretary to City Business Administrator, Ben Lopez during the administration of Mayor Anthony R. Cucci. A number of her former bosses remember DAgosto as a hard worker who was always professional. "She was a very good secretary," McGill said. "She was one of the first to be most interested in new things. After I became Chief Judge in the Municipal Court, I often had to call the City Clerks Office. She was also knowledgeable and helpful. She will be missed by all." Former Jersey City Mayor Gerald McCann called her a dedicated hard worker. "It didnt matter what administration she worked for, she was always professional," McCann said. Jersey City Council President Thomas DeGise said DAgosto was "a lovely, warm person who was always professional. I remember at one point when Bob Byrne (Jersey City City Clerk) took some time off, Barbara ran our council meetings and caucus as the Deputy City Clerk, and she did a really great job. She will be missed." |
BARBARA M. DAGOSTO "She was an absolutely beautiful person, absolutely professional," remembers Matthew Burns. "I cant say enough good things about her. Im really mourning her passing.""Were just heartbroken here. First, to lose her professionally for 15 months, and then for her to pass. Its hard to accept. We still have her name on the City Council agendas." Byrne said DAgosto was only the second person to actually receive a Deputy City Clerks Certificate. Surviving are her husband, Randy Tomaszewski; a daughter, Denise Filardo; her mother, Genevieve DAgosto; a brother, Nicholas III; a sister, Irene McNulty; and four nieces and nephews. Visitation will be today at Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Bromirski Funeral Home, Jersey City, is in charge.
